Im sorry but im going to have to totally disagree with you on that statement, Finland is known for its metal music and in the top 100 metal bands a lot of finish bands are rated very high.

I took a look at a couple of the examples you gave and to be honest i cant stand music that has men screaming into a microphone i think it is terrible, and to be honest what is the point in singing if you cant understand what he is actually saying?

What's the point in listening to any music with instruments then? You can't understand what "they" are "saying" either.

But the bigger the crowd the more popularity... however i do like a lot of bands which very little people know about, and sometimes these can be better, however if a band has many many fans it must show they are good.

I do read books, poems do nothing for me, i prefere someone singing there feelings and thoughts than just placed on a page, and listen to rap????!!

I listen to music with instruments in because i like the sound of it and how talented people are, not because i want to understand what they are "saying".

Lots of people like different music, however i like metal because of the great use of instruments and the lyrics that they use, thats my view, yours may be different.

One thing I found interesting though is the part about millionaires. I can't say anything whether it is good or bad, but they (or their manager) know how to sell things. Having heaps of money does mean they sell heaps of CDs as well. Ergo there are people around who like it. And the more it is sold, the more money they get. Although this is generally agreed (in the media at least) as a barometer of the "goodness" of the thing, everyone has its own opinion in that respect. What the money does express is more the amount of people that like it.

How about moving over to the money question? Personally, I have never heard any good music made with money in mind. What I actually find to be the worst thing about high-selling pop is the fact that the artists, who are given all the credit and money, hardly ever even participate in the composing.

Thats slightly sterotypical i think, i didnt like any music that my friends did when i was in high school in fact i couldn't stand it.

Just to throw another argument into the discussion. I think the quality of music has anything to do with genre or style. Every genre has 'good' music. I try to find something to enjoy in all genres! Wich can be quiet hard sometimes , but sometimes its awarding! Try to find something to like in the bublegum pop or set aside the natural discomfort deathmetal causes in most people.

I agree angua that alot of good, great, amazing, intense.. metal bands are from finland.

most countrys have a vew interesting metal bands, i think. But indeed, Finland has alot of them compared to there population, especially death/blackmetal bands.

Tarot is a classic. I don't listen to it, but I have certain respect towards the band.

I encountered this band recently, and they are amazing!!! (and Dutch )

They are called "Textures", that name suits their music very well. Its definably... metal but with a lot of other genres mixed into it. Like spacey keyboard passages and ballad-like melody's.

Swedish people produce a lot of depressive/suicidal black metal. It doesn't really surprise me, living in Sweden must be depressing...

In australia, An average metal head could give u the ones I did for swedish metal and Dimmu Borgir for norwegian. It's not as famous down here.

Finland is more depressing if the suicide rate is anythign to go by ... though that may be more of a culture thing. Hu has the higest (or Japan one of the two)

Guns n Roses. - Mainly for the juxtaposition of Slash's sweet wailing guitar with Axl's harsh voice.
Queen - Freddy was a master showman and I love the sound of Brian May's guitar especially on such tracks as Friends will be Friends
Metallica - but while they still had long hair.

And yes, metal here is the "subgenre" of rock. So everythign from oh...Say Ozzy and Black sabbath onwards (technically, Led Zeppelin was the original heavy metal)

Heavy Metal is a subgenre of rock, but some subgenres of metal are influcenced more by other genres. For example early black/death metal bands were influenced more by punk, in both attitude and music.

Abyssic Hate's album "Suicidal Emotions" is brilliant. Especially the song "Despondency". It's the best depressive black metal song I have ever heard.
